Management of hundreds of macOS endpoints can be difficult if your organization has custom configurations that are hard for users to set up themselves. It’s easy to implement these setting for your users with macOS configuration profiles. These are XML files (.mobileconfig) that provide an simple way to define settings and restrictions for computers and users.

Citrix Endpoint Management (CEM) supports the upload and deployment of these configuration profiles to your macOS endpoints. It enables admins to construct custom payloads using either Apple Configurator 2 or Profile Creator, then upload them to CEM using the Import iOS and macOS Profile device policy.

This policy enables IT admins to quickly scale across a large user base for a quick deployment, with the custom settings that fit your organization’s needs. Sometimes macOS and iOS admins need to create a more detailed profile or deal with more advanced uses cases. Citrix Endpoint Management can help, no matter how complex or custom the use case.

IT admins must first create a device configuration profile (.mobileconfig) for iOS and macOS using either Apple Configurator 2 or Profile Creator. Once the device configuration is created it can then be uploaded using the Import iOS & macOS Profile device policy.

Other common examples we have seen customers use include:

  • Kernel Extension Policy (macOS only): Kernel extensions became somewhat of a challenge when Apple began prompting users for approval for common apps and device drivers. With the Import iOS and macOS Profile device policy, admins can proactively deploy kernel extensions for their users, making it quick and easy to get started with their applications or devices.
  • WiFi Policy (for iOS and macOS): The Wi-Fi device policy lets you manage how users connect their devices to Wi-Fi networks. For some macOS advanced configurations, admins can take advantage of this policy to help users when connecting to Wi-Fi with advanced settings.
  • Restrictions Device Policy (for iOS and macOS): The Restrictions device policy allows or restricts certain features or functionality on a user’s device. Admins can use the policy to configure additional or recently announced restrictions.
  • Privacy Preferences Policy Control (PPPC) (for macOS only): Privacy preferences are top of mind when you need to share your screen during a video conferencing call. These preferences allow for granting or denying specific applications access to certain privacy features. They include, but are not limited to, location services, camera/microphone, screen capture, and full disk access.
  • System Policy Control (for macOS only): This helps with system policy controls such as Allow Mac App Store and Identified Developers, making it easier for users to quickly gather the apps they need to get started.

These policies make it easier for users to get set up with the apps and configurations they need. No matter how custom your organizations settings are, the Import iOS and macOS Profile device policy can help. Check out our Citrix Docs page for more information on Citrix Endpoint Management.
