Now, more than ever, video conferencing apps play an essential role in our daily lives. From conference calls to 1-on-1 meetings and virtual “coffee chats” for a quick catch-up with co-workers, remote work has depended heavily on seamless video conferencing. Citrix Workspace app for Chrome OS users who leverage video conferencing apps for their day-to-day work know this well.

That’s why we are excited to announce that webcam support for 64-bit apps is here! The latest Citrix Workspace app for Chrome OS (version 2101.6 and above) now offers enhanced performance and audio improvements to reduce jitter and lag for both 32- and 64-bit video conferencing applications such as Microsoft Teams, Cisco Webex, and more. This feature is supported from Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops 7.17 or above.

Let’s take a look at some common questions when implementing and setting up this new capability:

How do I configure this?

If you are an administrator, enable the ‘Windows Media Redirection’ and ‘MultiMedia Conferencing’ policies (enabled by default) on the Desktop Delivery Controller (DDC).

To configure this feature from client side:

  • Configure webcam redirection using the following path: HTML5_CONFIG → features → video via the Google Admin Console

OR

  • Edit the fields under the key ‘video’, which is located under ‘features’ in configuration.js. The file is located at ChromeApp root folder.

Can I change the webcam resolution?

Yes, you can! You can add ‘width’ and ‘height’ keys under the key ‘config’, located under the key ‘video’, located under the key ‘features’ in configuration.js and change it to your desired resolution.

Please note, this may affect the performance for higher-resolution values. The recommended value is 352 x 288.

Is there webcam privacy when the session is not active?

Security is always top of mind when developing new features and capabilities. Webcam video will only be captured when the session is in focus. Once you switch to a different application, the webcam is paused and resumes only once you come back.

Can I change the default webcam within a session?

Yes. We can change the default webcam within the session. We support external webcams along with built-in or integrated webcams.
