Enterprises and people both need to adapt to grow. Citrix and Google Cloud are no stranger to the adaptations that global workforces had to make in 2020. Through collaboration, Citrix and Google Chrome Enterprise are driving innovation for modern computing through Chrome OS and Browser.
In January, Google announced its shift toward phasing out support for Chrome apps on Chrome OS and Browser, pivoting focus to a web-based app approach. Based on customer and partner feedback, Google Chrome Enterprise has adjusted their Chrome App support timeline to June 2022, when they’ll phase out support. Citrix is committed to working closely with Google to leverage the modern web and the emerging web capabilities to deliver the best user experience. Our partnership with Google has allowed us to prepare for this change and enable our customers to keep their current deployments of Citrix Workspace app for Chrome on Chrome OS. With Google’s new support timeline, we are able to expand upon Citrix Workspace app for Chrome.
In January, we announced the migration of the Citrix Workspace app for Chrome users to Citrix Workspace app for Android. With new developments from Google, we are enabling customers to continue to leverage Citrix Workspace app for Chrome for the foreseeable future. Customers who have already transitioned to Citrix Workspace app for Android on Chrome OS can transition back to Citrix Workspace app for Chrome.
What does this mean for your organization?
If you are currently leveraging Citrix Workspace app for Chrome within your deployment, you can continue with business and upgrade as usual. Citrix plans to keep enhancing the Workspace app on Chrome with the latest web technologies to reduce the dependencies on NaCl and Chrome APIs.
If you transitioned to Citrix Workspace app for Android on Chrome OS, we ask that you start transitioning back to Citrix Workspace app for Chrome. We plan to enhance the current Citrix Workspace app for Chrome to provide a better experience on Chrome OS.
