With September upon us you can bet the Citrix Endpoint Management team is getting ready for three things:

  • Hurricanes
  • A new school year
  • Android and iOS platform updates

The last one is a culmination of efforts that spanned through summer and involved testing beta updates and making sure we are prepared to support these updates on or before the release date.

With our latest release — Secure Hub 20.7.5 — we are happy to announce support for Android 11. As my colleague Daniel Baudino did in his blog post on iOS updates, I want to go over some of the key features and share some reminders to ensure the smoothest transition for your Android 11 deployment.

Android 11 Day 1 Support

End users should upgrade to Secure Hub 20.7.5 to ensure full support of the Android 11. Customers who are considering upgrading to Android 11 should also upgrade their device to Secure Hub 20.7.5.

Legacy Device Admin Support

In addition to upgrading to Secure Hub 20.7.5, it is also important to remember that Device Administrator mode is not supported with the release of Android 11. New Android 10+ devices enrolling in Device Administrator mode will be blocked to minimize combability issues. Existing enrolled Android 10 devices will continue to work as expected until the Google mandated API upgrade (SDK 29) is completed in November 2020. Device Administrator mode will continue to be supported with Android 9 and below, but we encourage admins to move to Android Enterprise, which provides a more modern and secure management platform.

Support for 64bit Architecture

Secure Hub 20.7.5 also introduces support for 64bit architecture and enables end users to transition seamlessly from older 32bit versions to 64bit.

Ability to Disable “One Lock”

Support for one lock (or unified passcode) is also available with Android 11. One lock is a platform functionality to enable users to have a unified device passcode to unlock both their device (personal) and work profiles. This setting enables admins to force users to set separate passcodes for device (personal) and work profiles as required.

Hide or Unhide Apps If Passcode Is Not in Compliance

Our passcode policies follow strict security measures by hiding applications until the passcode on the device is compliant with the policy. We want the admins the freedom to make the decision on how strict the passcode compliance measures should be. With the release of Citrix Endpoint Management (Cloud) 20.8.0 and Secure Hub 20.7.5, a toggle is now available to hide or unhide apps/shortcuts.

Work Profile on Company-Owned Devices

Android 11 also introduces a new and improved work profile on company-owned devices with user privacy in mind. This new version allows admins to deploy a “work profile” on a company owned device, giving IT admins the ability to provide the same strong security and privacy that come with the work profile. The configuration brings forward a new asset management offering and personal usage policies for company-owned devices.

Some of these asset management and personal usage policies include but are not limited to:

  • Ability to factory reset
  • Ability to enable/disable factory reset options
  • Ability to configure Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and other connectivity options
  • Ability to enable/disable camera

We’re excited about and ready for the release of Android 11, and we hope you are, too. Keep up to date with all the latest updates and features on our What’s New with Citrix Endpoint Management page.
