The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has changed our work styles and routines in unprecedented ways — more meetings to stay connected, different devices, unusual work hours, and, of course, the unpredictable kid interruptions!

And as more people than ever work remotely, many Citrix admins have highlighted two needs:

  • Greater visibility into users’ end points to strengthen security as more users work with their own (BYOD) devices.
  • The ability for users to collaborate more efficiently

The latest update to Citrix Workspace app for Windows caters to precisely these two asks! In addition to fixing a few experience issues and squashing bugs, this new release enhances the power of Citrix Analytics for Security and brings additional capabilities to our optimization for Microsoft Teams.

What’s New?

Citrix Analytics for Security continuously assesses the behavior of Citrix Workspace users and applies actions to protect sensitive corporate information. The Citrix Workspace app has always played a significant role in providing information to Citrix Analytics. Previously, when ICA sessions were launched from a browser, as with Workspace for Web, and redirected to launch using the native Citrix Workspace app for Windows, the app didn’t send complete information to Citrix Analytics. Our latest update to the Citrix Workspace app addresses this gap and empowers admins with greater visibility, regardless of how end users launch virtual apps and desktops.

We are also continuously working to improve user collaboration experiences while being cognisant of security best practices. That’s why we’re building upon our HDX Optimization for Microsoft Teams. With this update of the Citrix Workspace app, the contents shared using Microsoft Teams within a virtual session are limited to just the contents of the desktop viewer window. All areas outside of the desktop viewer window, such as the client local desktop and apps, appear blacked out.

As you can see in the screenshot below, the user on the left is sharing their local desktop screen, but anything outside of the virtual session appears as a black box to the user on the right.

As you and your teams continue to work away from the office, this update is sure to help your users collaborate securely and more effectively. Head to our Citrix Workspace app downloads page to get the latest update or simply check for updates to get the auto-update. Stay safe!
