As the world deals with coronavirus (COVID-19), organizations everywhere are encouraging or mandating remote work for employees. In these situations, it’s crucial for them to be able to maintain business continuity. A business continuity plan needs to ensure employees and partners can access their work applications and data remotely so they can stay productive, while IT can maintain the necessary levels of security and control over user access to corporate resources.

Citrix Gateway service provides secure remote access to virtual apps and desktops, supporting workforce productivity and giving employees the flexibility to work from anywhere, while keeping apps and information secure. Citrix Gateway service automatically routes end-user traffic to the closest global Citrix Gateway service point of presence (PoP). This enables secure connectivity between end-users and virtualization resources to deliver the lowest latency sessions with the best possible user experience.

So, what is Citrix doing to serve the growing number of people working from home?

Citrix has increased the number of Citrix Gateway service PoPs globally in anticipation of increased capacity and scaling needs of Citrix Workspace and Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops customers. This supports our customers’ business continuity initiatives and helps keep employees productive, even when they’re working from home.

New Citrix Gateway service POPs are now available in four additional locations:

  • Ohio (United States)
  • Montreal (Canada)
  • London (United Kingdom)
  • Sydney (Australia)
Stars indicate new PoP locations.

With these additions, Citrix Gateway service now operates 19 PoPs around the world, further strengthening our overall global presence, helping enterprises deliver high-performing applications, and minimizing the effects of network outages.

Citrix brought up these new PoPs in regions where we anticipated need for additional capacity and increased resiliency to balance traffic and to greatly reduce the risk of downtime. We aim to maintain a high quality of service for our customers to best help with their business continuity needs.

Key virtual apps and desktops use cases that Citrix Gateway service enables include:

  • Delivering seamless and secure access to virtual Windows apps and desktops published on Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops while keeping apps, desktops and data safely protected within the customer’s data center, without the need for VPN.
  • Secure remote access to physical PCs and laptops, leveraging the full HDX experience without SSL VPNs or the need to migrate desktops to the data center.

Citrix Workspace, including Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, powered by Citrix Gateway service, is enabling tens of thousands of users worldwide to securely access their work applications and data remotely. Additionally, organizations that have no virtualization solution in place today can quickly provide remote access to their existing corporate PCs through the Remote PC Access capabilities within Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops. Remote PC Access allows users to access corporate resources remotely without requiring IT to build out the necessary backend infrastructure needed for a full-fledged VDI environment. This can prove valuable in the event of unexpected business disruptions like what organizations are facing now.
