It’s no secret that Linux is loved by both admins and end users. That’s why the Citrix Workspace app for Linux team is constantly adding new and exciting features to the product. Our latest release, Citrix Workspace app 2106 for Linux, is full of new features and functionality that improve the user experience.

We are very excited to announce that our latest release includes browser content redirection (BCR) with Chromium Embedded Framework (CEF). This frequently requested functionality is already available across our other Citrix Workspace app clients. BCR allows for content to be redirected from the ICA session to the endpoint, enabling better performance and playback on multimedia.

When implementing this feature, the flag “UseCefBrowser” in the file $ICAROOT/config/All_Regions.ini is now set to True by default.

When browser content redirection is enabled, the green Citrix symbol appears in the top right of your screen, as shown below:

You can see if you are using BCR with CEF when you type the following command:

Ps –ef | grep webcontainer

You’ll get multiple entries that look similar to the image below.

Here, the path is $ICAROOT/opt/Citrix/ICAClient/cef/webcontainer —.

We also have introduced the battery status indicator feature, which shows the battery status of the device inside the Citrix virtual desktop session. This straightforward but powerful feature helps users see how much power is left on the endpoint they’re using so they can charge the device batter if needed.

When the device is not being charged, the red icon is shown.

When the device is being charged, the green icon is shown.

The feature is enabled by default, but you can disable it at the following path:

$ICAROOT /config/module.ini folder

Go to the ICA 3.0 section and set the MobileReceiver to Off.

In addition, this release enables admins to set specific network preferences for media traffic to ensure the user has the best possible experience with voice and video. We also introduced a preview for the highly anticipated Service Continuity capability.
